Folk troupes from Gujarat (Garba), Manipuri (Gid), Punjab (Bhangra), Gujarat (Dandiyaras), Kerala (Markangali), Maharashtra (Koli), Goa (Goan Dance), Orissa (Santhal), Nagaland (Naga), Andhra Pradesh (Dheemsa), Rajasthan (Kalbelia) will be performing in the two-day event. The programme will start at 6 pm on both the days.

Felicitation
Kannada and Culture Department Secretary I M Vittalamurthy told reporters here on Wednesday that 12 folk artists will be felicitated on January 27. Artists identified for felicitation are - Puttamalle Gowda (Chamarajanagar), Hebbani Mahadevaiah (Bangalore), GPN Jagadeesh (Chikmagalur), Daroji Eeramma (Bellary), Basappa (Chikmagalur), Munivenkatappa (Kolar), Sukribomma Gowda (Uttara Kannada), Rajanna (Chitradurga), B K Ramanna, Chirakunnaiah (Mandya), Gangaiah Parava (Moodbidre) and Vittalarao Gondali (Bidar). Jnanapeetha awardee U R Ananthamurthy will felicitate the folk artists.

Plea to corporates
Mr Vittalamurthy appealed to the corporate sector to invite folk troupes in their cultural gatherings.
He said companies such as Infosys, Wipro hold get-together at regular intervals. They spend more funds for such programmes. If they invite folk troupes, those artistes will get exposure. Department of Kannada and Culture will provided assistance if companies come forward to hold such programmes, he said.
