Exactly a week after serial blasts jolted Bangalore, one more bomb was defused near Channapatna, 70 km from here. That’s where terrorists are believed to have done a dry run on July 24.
DG&IGP R Sri Kumar said the bomb was found near Kudineera Katte, just outside Channapatna. “It was a small bomb, set on fire and thrown by the roadside. It had not gone off and was defused by the bomb squad.’’
Sources said the bomb was found around 5.45 pm and the squad was summoned from Bangalore and K Sukumar, who defused the bomb near The Forum mall last Saturday, deactivated it. Sources said the bomb was similar to the ones used in the Bangalore blasts. The main component was ammonium nitrate and there was a striking resemblance to detonators used in all the blasts. The police suspect it was some remaining pieces of the bombs which the terrorists wanted to dispose of. With its detection, the theory that locals were behind the blasts is gaining ground, sources added.
