Daredevils surface over Royal Challengers : Bangalore

Good performances lift you but bad ones weigh you down. Having lost eight out of ten games, you can imagine the burden on the minds of the players in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp.
Under the circumstances, the rain that came down hard on Monday evening some three hours before the start of their match against the Delhi Daredevils, threatening the game briefly, may have even been greeted with relief. The match though, thanks to the adequate covering of the square at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, began on time and with that out went any hopes the hosts may have entertained of gaining at least one point from a wash out.

Harsh as that might sound, facts are but facts. Thanks to the fine efforts of IPL debutant Sreevats Goswami and Misbah-ul-Haq, the Royal Challengers put up a total of 154 for 7 at 7.7 an over, a decent effort by their falling standards. It was nowhere near enough though as the Orange Cap holder Gautam Gambhir and skipper Virendra Sehwag made it into a no-contest with a 90-run stand from a mere seven overs. The Daredevils got home with ten balls to spare to notch their sixth win.

Where the Delhi bowlers led again by Glenn McGrath and supported superbly by Farveez Maharoof, showed what T20 bowling was all about, with spells that a thrifty Marwari businessman would have been proud of, giving away a total of 28 runs from their 8 overs, Gambhir (39, 31b, 6x4) and Sehwag (37, 19b, 9x4, 1x6) took 41 off the first four overs sent down by Dale Steyn and Zaheer Khan. There and then, the match was well and truly over, even if some artificial excitement prevailed with the rash of wickets that fell towards the end of the chase.
