Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh had an emotional reunion with his family members, who met him on Thursday in a jail for the first time in 18 years. Dalbir Kaur, who has been single-handedly carrying on a campaign to save her brother from the gallows and to get him released, met him at the Kot Lakhpat jail, where he has been languishing after conviction in a bombing case. There were emotional moments when Sarabjit saw for the first time his younger daughter Poonam, who was accompanied by his wife Sukhpreet Kaur, his daughters Swapandeep and Poonam, sister Dalbir and husband Baldev Singh. Sarabjit is due to be executed on May 1. The reunion took place after the family got permission from Home Department of Punjab province. Officials said Sarabjit was in tears after his family left. Meanwhile, the Pakistani government appeared to give a ray of hope when it said that India’s clemency plea will be considered.Pakistan Foreign Office said the government was “actively considering” India’s request for clemency to the death row prisoner and will take a decision in “due course”.Immediately, human rights activist Ansar Burney, who was in India recently, said he would personally hand over a petition. !
