Twenty-six-year old Amarnath was looking forward to his new job at the Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli.

But his dreams weren’t to be. Amarnath, a resident of a nearby village, died after being knocked down by a private bus on this highway connecting Bangalore to Bangalore International Airport.

Soon after the incident, angry villagers went berserk and torched two buses and blocked traffic for almost two hours. The victim's family says he was looking at the job as a means to start his family

“He was a nice boy, it’s sad that his life had to end like this,” says his uncle

According to reports, 20 people have been killed and over 30 injured in various accidents on the highway since the airport was opened in May.

Angry villagers allege life for them has become tough. They say because of speeding vehicles, it’s difficult for them to even cross the road.

“Because of the highway there have been a lot of accidents and it’s become very tough for us to live here,” says Resident of Kannamanagala village, Kumar.

Bangalore police have tried to control speeding drivers by installing speed interceptors across the highway but with accidents continuing, looks like much is left to be done.
