Job-seekers age limit up by 2 years: Bangalore

After winning the hearts of state government employees by enhancing the retirement age from 58 to 60, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has now made job-seekers happy. He has enhanced the age limit for government jobs by two years.
“The age limit for all posts for all category candidates has been increased by two years,’’ he said, while replying to the budget discussion in the legislative assembly on Wednesday. The age limit is different for various posts and castes.
Owing to pressure from opposition members, he has made a few changes to the proposals. At the same time, he has included several others, including the enhancement of age limit for government jobs.
For instance, the government has withdrawn the proposal to issue licences to 1,000 liquor retail shops and 500 bars and restaurants. These licences were to curb the sale of liquor through unauthorized outlets following the ban on arrack. The same pressure also made the government earmark Rs 1 crore each under the MLA Local Area Development Fund (MLALAD).
The CM patted himself for the “revolutionary’’ programmes in the budget and tried to project himself as a messiah of the poor and the farmers. “This is my commitment. I will implement the budget. I have sought progress reports from deputy commissioners and chief executive officers every 100 days. I will visit 2-3 districts every month to review the progress,’’ he said.
To silence criticism about the influence of mining lords from Bellary on his government, he announced some measures to check illegal mining. “The government is committed to check illegal mining. After I assumed charge, neither have new licences been issued nor old ones renewed. Several mine contractors are mining in more areas than sanctioned. To prevent this, a satellite survey will be conducted by the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre in Bellary on an experimental basis,’’ Yeddyurappa said. He said that special investigation squads with adequate men and resources would be set up to prevent illegal mining and transportation
