King Khan banned from team dugout

One enduring image of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ ride through the IPL has been Shah Rukh Khan. In the dejection of defeat or the euphoria of joy, ‘King Khan’ has never been too far away. On Sunday, he was told to keep ‘safe distance’ from his team.

The Anti-Corruption Unit of the International Cricket Council has asked the KKR owner that he should not be in the player’s dressing room or their ‘dugout’ just beyond the boundary. “I’ve been told it’s got something to do with ICC’s Code of Conduct,”

SRK himself said on Sunday in response to a question during a media conference to announce the association between the Knight Riders and leading gaming portal zapak.com. “I’ve been made to believe it’s anti anti-corruption.”

Shah Rukh, who is usually seen cheering the Knights in the company of his group of celebrities from the terraces of the BC Roy Club House at the Eden Gardens here, has of late been making it to the dugout at the ground. The Bollywood matinee idol has been with his ‘boys’ in the dressing room, by his own admission discretely and only with the permission of coach John Buchanan, but now that door will be shut for him.

The Knights boss did his best to hide his disappointment with this new restrictions on his movement, but it was quite evident that he was annoyed. “I’m an honest and energetic man supporting his team, and I must say here that nothing, not the ICC or the CBI, can stop me from coming here to support my team,” he said. “I haven’t come to the IPL to make money or promote my films or for any of the many things that it may be attributed to. I’ve come to promote an ideology through this team. A philosophy that stresses on the effort more than on the result; where victories are not received by going overboard and defeats don’t leave you morose,” added Khan.
