Political row over milk price: Bangalore

The state government’s directive to KMF not to increase the price of milk seems to have stirred a political controversy.
BJP has strongly opposed the KMF’s decision to increase the price by Rs 2 as the state government plans to provide a cash incentive to milk producing farmers. But KMF president and JD(S) leader H D Revanna is not amused: he has described the state’s directive as unwanted and politically motivated interference.
BJP state unit hit back saying it was Revanna who was playing politics. BJP spokesperson and MLA C T Ravi said Revanna was trying to hike the milk price to malign the BJP-led state government.
KMF will defer the decision to hike milk prices. However, he criticized the government for unnecessarily interfering in the functioning of the KMF that was an autonomous institution.
With this, the old rates stay. There is no change in the price of milk, starting from the basic quality of double toned milk at Rs 14 per litre and the premium full cream at Rs 22 per litre.

KMF has 13 unions across the state with 11,000 societies under them Over 19 lakh farmers are members Every day, KMF procures around 30 lakh litres of milk and sells around 21 lakh litres It pays Rs 3.42 crore per day to farmers If CM’s cash incentive scheme is implemented, it will cost the exchequer Rs 220 crore per year KMF increased milk prices in January 2008, citing increased fuel costs.
