Monsoon which has been playing hide and seek struck Bangalore on Sunday with renewed force. There was non-stop downpour after 8 pm for a few hours, bringing in its wake flooding and traffic jams.

Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunder, made many areas inaccessible. The Met department had recorded 79.6 mm rainfall till 11.30 pm. rain fury hit even upmarket areas like Indiranagar and prominent roads like West of Chord Road and Vittal Mallya Road along with vulnerable areas like Puttenahalli, Kammanahalli and DJ Halli.

Initially, west and east areas experienced heavy rainfall which later spread to south. A car and an autorickshaw which tried to negotiate the heavily flooded roads in front of Iskcon temple on West of Chord Road couldn’t do so. The vehicles started floating on the water while the occupants managed to get down.

Bangalore: Sudden showers on Sunday evening led to huge traffic jams and waterlogging on several arterial roads in the city, including Vittal Mallya Road. Areas in DJ Halli were flooded a few minutes after it started raining. BBMP emergency wing personnel cleared the mess. The Old Madras Road, too, was flooded, sending the traffic to a full stop.

Interior parts of Karnataka, too, received rainfall. According to Met department director A Muthuchami, the trough of low pressure from Bay of Bengal caused the rainfall.
