SSLC exam pattern to change

The SSLC question paper pattern may be changed from the forthcoming academic year, with less weightage on objective-type questions. The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) is contemplating reducing the marks allotted to objective type questions listed under Part A of the SSLC question papers in all subjects.

The current SSLC question paper pattern, which is being followed for three years now and has objective type questions carrying 35/60 marks, has proven to be a disadvantage to students. In fact, the drastic fall in II PUC 2008 passes was blamed on the SSLC question paper pattern: it was said that the objective type questions had weakened the students’ ability to write descriptive answers.
KSEEB had constituted a 10-member committee, headed by Dr S Srikantaswamy, to look into the errors in the present SSLC question paper pattern and suggest a model paper. Currently, language papers have objective questions for 35 marks and 65 for descriptive type. In core subjects the corresponding are 60 and 40.

According to sources, the committee has suggested that KSEEB make the necessary changes in the March 2009 SSLC examination itself. The objective type questions will have to be reduced and the Part B question will have to be made compulsory, the sources said.
