If you aren’t already suffering from a viral infection, take all the basic precautions. For, the weather is conducive for viruses to multiply and spread. Cold, cough and sneezing are the common symptoms.
Doctors are getting a large number of patients with upper respiratory tract infection. Doctors are seeing a lot of patients with routine cough and cold, 20-25% with viral fever and 10-15% with dengue.
Patients low platelet count are also increasing. In these cases, doctors suspect dengue. There have been patients with denguelike fever, body ache, joint pain with or without rashes. Tests done on platelet count can confirm dengue or chikungunya. Persons with dengue need to be hospitalised and may even need transfusion of platelets.
Doctors warn that viral infection is highly contagious, and family members at home and colleagues at office stand a high chance of getting infected. In most offices, the closed environment and central AC adds to the easy spread of the virus. The cough and sneeze droplets contain the virus particles (aerosols) in the air. Due to low temperature outside, virus stay in the air for longer periods of time. Thus, through inhalation, virus can get into the body.
It is advisable to keep warm, and those with allergy should stay away from dust, avoid close contact with person with viral fever, maintain hygiene and avoid eating cold items.
