For the next nine days, Bangaloreans will stream into the 4th National Flower
Show at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, starting Saturday. This year’s theme being Hampi, the major attraction will be the floral Hampi chariot. The show is organized by the department of horticulture, National Horticulture Mission, New Delhi and Mysore Horticutural Society. Horticulture department director K Ramakrishnappa said more than 10 states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, New Delhi and Tamil Nadu are participating. There will be 845 exhibitors, both government and private boards. The Glass House will showcase over 300 potted flowers. More than 400 varieties of cacti will be on show at the cacti house. Organic farming will be the highlight at the department’s stall. Tight security, including metal detectors, CCTV cameras and handheld detectors, is in place. Bags and eatables are prohibited on the premises. All vehicles entering Lalbagh have to enter from the K H Road (Double Road) gate and exit through South gate (Siddapura). Visitors’ cameras will be screened and there’s a fee of Rs 50 for video camera and Rs 20 for still camera. The horticulture department celebrated M H Marigowda Foundation Day on Friday. Marigowda, known as the father of horticulture, dedicated his life to the development of horticulture. A stamp exhibition was held and the department felicitated retired officials as well as those who were associated with Marigowda. User reviews
