Tunes netas want us to hear: Bangalore

Dial a politician’s cellphone number and chances are you may hear a bhajan, a patriotic tune or a filmi melody. Caller tunes are used to flaunt identity and our netas are no exception.
If you happen to buzz former PM H D Deve Gowda, you’ll hear a Telugu devotional song on Rama, Antha Ramamayam. PWD minister C M Udasi and JD(S) MLC M C Nanaiah prefer themes on national and regional glory. For Udasi, it is poet Nissar Ahmed’s Jogada Siri Belakinal
li, while Nanaiah chooses to go with the superhit number Kodagina Cauvery...” from the yesteryear movie, Sharapanjara. Veteran Congress leader C K Jaffer Sharif had chosen Vande Mataram.
Popular film music spurs on some others. Congress leader Siddaramaiah, former CM H D Kumaraswamy, minister P M Narendra Swamy, former ministers N Cheluvarayaswamy and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan and chief minister’s press secretary N Bhrungeesh offer film songs
when you call them. Kumaraswamy has opted for the peppy Gubbachhi goodinalli kaddumuchhi from the Kannada movie Bindaas, while Siddaramaiah plumps for the hugely popular Anisutide Yaako Indu from the superhit Mungaru Male. Narendraswamy chooses the Ravichandran hit Kushalave Kshemave , Cheluvarayaswamy Ee mounada naduve mathaduva kannide from Shubham.
Bollywood tunes have a following too. Bhrungeesh has on his cell, Kyun aaj neend kum khwab zyada hain (Woh Lamhe), and Zameer Yeh tera mera milna (Aap Ka Suroor). Call former CM N Dharam Singh, the sher-o-shairi fan, and you’ll hear a bhajan: Srira
machandra krupalu bhajamana. JD(S) spokesperson Y S V Datta wants his callers to listen to the legendary M S Subbulakshmi’s Kausalya Supraja Rama.... State JD(S) chief Merajuddin Patel says the love for his country had him pick Aai mere watan ke logon — the song by Lata Mangeshkar which had Pandit Nehru in tears.
Many others haven’t chosen to leave their mark — either by choice or simply, because they aren’t comfortable with the gadget.
